Platinum Group Elements (PGEs)

WGM’s PGE Team is comprised of experienced exploration and mine geologists, mining and metallurgical engineers and mineral economists. The team also draws upon the specialist expertise of such world renowned experts as Dr. Tony Naldrett, Dr. Jon Scoates, Dr. Louis Cabri and Dr. Roger Eckstrand. This provides WGM with the experience and scope to provide the full range of services to take a project from conception to feasibility.

WGM has completed assignments for companies leading PGE exploration in both Canada and overseas. We work with clients right from project inception through to preparation of preliminary assessments to feasibility studies.

Key Projects

Lac des Iles Mine, Ontario, Canada - WGM was retained by North American Palladium to provide an onsite Chief Engineer and Mine Superintendent while seeking a permanent replacement. In addition, we developed a mine plan for a 3-phase open pit. WGM’s engineers supervised implementation of the plan, including the management of daily engineering requirements, as well as development of procedures for grade control and information reporting. Site personnel were trained in the use of Gemcom to insure timely flow of information to mine operations. On completion of its assignment, WGM was retained to provide mine engineering, capital cost and manpower requirements as scoping study parameters to determine if an exploration program should be undertaken, to determine if a production expansion should be reviewed.

The Urals Platinum and Palladium Belt, Russia - Due diligence review of several key license areas.

Akanvaara and Koillismaa Layered Intrusions, Finland - Due Diligence review of exploration projects.

Preliminary assessment on Maturi Deposit (Duluth Complex), MN, USA - WGM was contracted by Wallbridge Mining Company Ltd. to model the deposit, resulting in the identification of a down-plunge extension of the deposit.

Bushveld Complex, South Africa - Review of Platreef area exploration properties

North American PGE exploration program for Lonmin PLC - WGM developed and carried out a program overview, including a detailed due diligence investigation on various properties.

East Bull Lake and River Valley Intrusions, Ontario, Canada - Preparation of a benchmarking study to determine parameters for an economic deposit and a mineralogical study of the North zone.

In the News

In Memoriam: David Beggs (1943-2010) - (January 25th, 2010) It is with heartfelt sorrow that we bid fond farewell to David Beggs, WGM’s Senior Geomatics Associate, who passed away this week. David had over 38 years of industry experience, much of it in developing countries, advocating the training and mentoring of local personnel in new technologies. He was an expert in GIS and remote sensing, and during the period between 1996 and 1998, he processed and interpreted RadarSAT and LandSAT imagery for mineral exploration projects in Mongolia, Africa, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Philippines and Solomon Islands. David was admired by all of his colleagues for his steadfast dedication to his work and family. We will miss him dearly.

WGM selected for Egyptian Industrial Minerals Study - (January 8th, 2010) The Industrial Modernization Centre (“IMC”) is an industrial development agency jointly funded by the European Union, the Egyptian private sector, and the government of Egypt, whose mandate is to provide business development support to Egyptian industrial enterprises.
